Suspension

Suspension refers to a mixture in which solid particles are dispersed in a liquid or gas but do not dissolve. In a suspension, the solid particles are usually larger than those found in a colloid and can often be seen with the naked eye. Over time, these particles will settle to the bottom if left undisturbed, due to gravity.

Suspensions are commonly encountered in various contexts, such as pharmaceuticals, where solid medicine is suspended in a liquid for easier administration, or in environmental science, where particulate matter may be suspended in air or water. Suspensions can also refer to a temporary halt or interruption of an activity or operation, such as the suspension of a service, event, or individual from participation in a group due to a violation of rules or regulations.

In general, the term emphasizes the concept of something being held in a state of balance or temporary hold, whether in a physical combination or a social context.
