In a feat of logistical precision, Indian-based Express Global Logistics (EXG) achieved a remarkable transport operation involving enormous modules for a green hydrogen initiative in Saudi Arabia. Tasked with moving 14 giant modules, each weighing up to 250 tonnes, EXG successfully executed this complex operation, directly impacting the renewable energy sector.
The mission required moving modules measuring 50 meters long, 12 meters wide, and 18 meters high, amounting to around 1,500 freight tonnes. To handle these massive dimensions, EXG utilized state-of-the-art Scheuerle self-propelled modular transporters (SPMT) from their expansive Megaload fleet. This included 48 axle lines, two powerful power pack units, and specially designed spacers.
Ingenious strategies were employed, such as the roll-on roll-off (RoRo) method, which was utilized for transporting eight modules. This technique allowed seamless loading onto vessels using ramp plates and stools, ensuring stability during the sea journey. The remaining six modules reached their destination with the help of crawler cranes, a testament to the precision and expertise of the team involved.
EXG’s engineering and operational teams played a crucial role, navigating unique challenges with masterful execution. The operation not only highlighted their technical capabilities but also underscored the importance of a strategic approach in heavy logistics.
In a collaborative stride, January 2023 marked the formation of Megaload, a joint venture with Italy’s Fagioli. This partnership aimed to boost logistical capabilities across various industrial sectors through advanced transportation solutions, reflecting a commitment to innovation and excellence in heavy transport.
The success of this operation sets a new benchmark in logistics, showcasing EXG’s dedication to pushing the boundaries of heavy transport execution.
